Billy Ray Stillwell is a character from Twisted Metal: Black. He is the driver of Junkyard Dog.

Bio (Manual)

Billy Ray Stillwell was a simple farmer. He toiled the land on his father's farm with his wife (naturally, his highschool sweetheart). Life was simple and good.

Every afternoon, Billy Ray walked the fields to observe his crops. He figured that it would only be another two weeks until his corn was ready to be harvested. The crop looked good this year, better than he had expected. Maybe with the extra money, he could buy that ring his wife had seen in the city. She had been with him through the worst of times. She truly deserved it... didn't she?

Story

Billy Ray was once a simple corn farmer with Annie, his wife. One day, two weeks from harvest, Billy was checking out the crop in the corn field until an unscheduled crop duster flew in. The plane began to spew toxic gas, Billy Ray yelled for the plane pilot to stop and let him get out of the way, but he gets caught in the gas, which suffocated him and rendered him unconscious for hours. When Billy Ray woke up, he found his entire corn field dead and his face horribly disfigured.

He went to Annie for help, but when he got home, he saw Annie and the pilot kissing. He overheard their plan about killing Billy Ray to get his life insurance and running off together. Enraged and heartbroken, Billy Ray grabbed for the closest thing he could find (a garden hoe) and attacked them. The pilot escaped, but Annie was beaten to death by Billy Ray for an hour until she was reduced to a bloody pulp.

He was then arrested and confined to Blackfield Asylum, where he stayed for years, and every night he yearned for vengeance. But one day, he got his chance. A mysterious man called Calypso entered his cell. He offered him a deal; win his contest and he'll give Billy Ray the vengeance he desired, he accepted.

Ending

After winning the contest, Billy Ray goes to see Calypso to earn his prize. Soon, Calypso transports him back to his old farm where the same pilot awaits, now chained to the ground. Since the pilot brought his plane with him, Billy gets into the plane and taxis it towards the pilot. After the pilot is shredded to death by the propeller, Billy feels he has found his true calling in life, so he decides to give up farming and head to the city.

Trivia

• Billy Ray's appearances in the vehicle selection screen and his cutscenes look drastically different. This is also the case for most of the other drivers.
• In Preacher's middle and ending cutscenes, Billy Ray (Prior to his deformation) and Annie are seen standing next to Preacher as he holds their baby, who was brought to the church exorcised/baptised. Billy Ray is later shown to be impaled by the Preacher. These are most likely merely asset re-uses as opposed to intentionally meant to represent Billy Ray or Annie.
• In his ending, Billy Ray states that killing the pilot was the second time he had ever killed someone. This would be untrue as he would have to kill all of the Twisted Metal contestants in order to win the contest. It's possible that because it was a contest and all the drivers willingly participated on their own terms, Billy did not see them as being "true" victims of his. Therefore, he did not count them among his murders.
• The song that plays during the flashback scene and the ending where Billy gets his revenge on the pilot is called "Going Under" by Darrell Wayne “Wayne” Perry. This song was also used in other games, such as Fallout: New Vegas.
  • In the Deleted Scenes, the song that originally played was "Your Cheatin' Heart" by Hank Williams. It was probably changed out to be less on the nose, considering the subject matter.
• Billy Ray, Dollface, Sweet Tooth, Mr. Grimm, No Face, and Bloody Mary were the only characters from the game to receive a webshort animation during the game's release, made by AnimationS4.
