Freeway: Midtown Expressway 104 is one of the choices for the second level in Twisted Metal: Black, the other being the Suburbs. It consists of Midtown's hospital and a construction yard in which Axel is hidden. It is a massive-sized arena, and the player has to defeat 7 enemies to advance. Upon completing the level, the player is prompted to choose between the Highway Loop or Downtown arenas.

Features[]

Running around the arena is a train which, if hit with an explosive attack just right, can destroy the bridge, should it pass over it. Another point of interest is the go-kart track (which contains a repair station). Here, you can see what the area looks like before Minion attacks the stadium. There is also a construction yard, where a crane is the key to unlocking Axel, and a huge hospital accessible from a ramp, its interior is almost all empty space. Lots of civilian cars are driving on the road, sometimes blocking your shots (a good example would be Yellow Jacket, who can waste a special attack by ramming a civilian with his spikes).

Secrets[]

  • Unlocking Axel: one of the two cranes next to the construction zone can be shot with a gas can. Use a hogback to line your shot and fire a gas can at this crane. It will steer and drop a crate, which contains Axel (which is, by the way, the only vehicle that can be touched). Shoot the crate to unlock the character.

Trivia[]

  • An unused miniature version of the map was found in the online version's game files. For this mini version of the Freeway, the map is stripped down to the main street path with all other features absent. The location has an incorrect respawn of enemies (such as spawning inside the hospital, even though there is no way in due to the ramp being removed) and some bonuses are strangely placed. There are no pedestrians or fodder cars, but the files exist for them. There are also no helicopters.
