- "The only thing more precious than... than gas, food, porno, water, is time... time with the people you care about."
- —Granny Dread, Twisted Metal (TV Series)
Cathy Stropton, also known as Granny Dread, was a supporting character from the Twisted Metal television series. She was the last remaining founder of the Convoy faction.
Appearance[]
She wore a work shirt with PPE sleeves and a knitted sweater vest with colorful buttons over the left side. She had a large pair of glasses with yellow plastic chains that let her keep her glasses around her neck when not wearing them. She had a wavy 80's haircut, probably the same overall look she sported with her hair and glasses during her time as an award-winning real estate agent. At one point, she got around in a wheelchair and scammed people into doing her bidding by putting on an invalid act, until she met John and Quiet, the former of which pointed out in a "playing along" sort of manner that her oxygen tank hoses led to nowhere, and dragged on the floor behind her.
Personality[]
Her personality was that of the stereotypical American Southern grandmother, with a blunt-yet-colorful way of speaking and a strong Southern drawl in her accent. While kindhearted and caring of the people she loves to the very end, she was also a cunning trickster and a serious pervert, having spent an undisclosed number of years building her own post-apocalyptic version of the Kama Sutra, which she dubbed "The Granny Sutra."
Relationships[]
The Convoy[]
While she considered the entire Convoy to be her family, she specifically held soft spots for Miranda Watts, her seemingly adoptive granddaughter and driver of a weaponized Formula One race car called Twister, and Amber Rose, a former member of the Convoy and original driver of Flower Power, a Volkswagen Beetle.
John Doe & Quiet[]
She formed a small bond with John Doe and Quiet near the end of her life, leaving Quiet with advice before dismissing the two so she can leave Miranda with her final words.
History[]
Background[]
Before the apocalyptic event of 2002, Cathy Stropton was the top selling real state agent in Boca Raton, Florida. She worked on RE/MAX, and received the diamond award ten years in a row. She was also a wild nymphomaniac that documented much of her sexcapades in a self-written and self-illustrated book called "Granny Sutra". After the apocalypse happened and the city walls went up, she rode her BMW and became known and feared as "Granny Dread". She joined an unknown amount of individuals and together they founded the Convoy - a gang of truckers who rode rigs non-stop throughout the Divided States of America, preferring to move around instead of being easy targets.

Milkman on a cross.
By 2022, Granny Dread was the last remaining of the founders. At some point, Miranda Watts had a falling out with fellow Convoy member Amber Rose, which caused her to leave the group and made it difficult for Granny to acquire medicine. Because of this, they decided to ask the help of a Milkman to bring the medicide. However, the Milkman was caught in the path of the Holy Men, who strapped him up to a cross and left him to die.
Season 1[]

Granny makes a deal with John and Quiet.
An unknown amount of time later, she and members of the Convoy noticed another Milkman on the road and decided to swallow them up with one of their rigs. It ended up being John Doe and Quiet. After meeting with them in a nearly decrepit state, both agreed to meet with Amber Rose to collect an order of medicine in exchange for weapons and upgrades for their vehicle.

Granny's Funeral.
Contrary to what they thought however, the medicine was actually some flowers that would be brewed into a concoction that would help make her comfortable at the point of her rapidly approaching death. Granny would drink this brew and shortly pass away after in the front seat of her BMW and her taxidermied dog Fang by her side. The car was then pushed out the back of a moving big rig and exploded while members of the Convoy cheered and commemorated her.
Trivia[]
- Granny Dread is a reference to a driver from Twisted Metal III, also named Granny Dread. However, the two of them don't have much in common besides being old ladies and having a dog named Fang. The Granny Dread from the videogames also drove that game's version of the monster truck 'Hammerhead', while in the show her car was a BMW 3 Series (E46) Cabrio.
- While Fang is depicted as a pitbull in the video game, the dog is depicted as a pug in the television series.
- The Drive-Thru sex position she mentions to Quiet when giving the Granny Sutra to her is later performed by her and John in Episode 6.
