Lionel, known after losing his memory as John Doe, is the main protagonist of the Twisted Metal television series.
Appearance[]
John Doe is a dark skinned male with shaved hair and a goatee beard. At the start of the series, he wears a brown vest with a yellow Hi-C t-shirt underneath, cargo pants, driver gloves with spider designs, and the 2001 Air Jordans Nike shoes that he takes from the shopping mall in Episode 1.
In Season 2, he traded the yellow shirt for a black one. In addition to having a new jacket with a black widow spider design on the back that was made by Dollface.
Personality[]
John is a loud motor-mouthed outsider, contrasted with Quiet's reserved demeanor. For his job as a Milkman, his fast-talking ways would serve as a way to get him out of trouble or to stay on people's good sides.
Due to a childhood left with little positive interaction, John developed a sense of naivete when it came to interacting with other people in a friendly way. For example, he once confused Raven's offering of a gelatin dessert as a friendly slang for depature. He would repeat this confusing offbeat ritual as an endearing goodbye until his road companion Quiet finally convinced him that it actually wasn't a thing people said.
Relationships[]
Quiet[]
John and Quiet share hardship by keeping mutual company during John's delivery mission. Both didn't like one another at first, but were forced to cooperate in order to survive the long road. Over time however, they began to bond and eventually develop a romantic relationship, all the while fighting back and forth as if they were a married couple.
Sweet Tooth[]
Before meeting Sweet Tooth, John had only heard of his legend before meeting him in the outskirts of Las Vegas. Despite his psychopathic tendencies, the two quickly form a connection after listening to "Thong Song" by the rapper Sisqo. John later offered him hard criticism after watching his one-man show that convinced Sweet Tooth to spare him and Quiet and to leave Las Vegas. The two are briefly reunited during the final battle with Agent Stone and his men.
Agent Stone[]
John would cross paths with Agent Stone after being detained at the Hoover Dam with Quiet. Stone proved to be quite the unbreakable figure as his fast-talking nature had no effect on him, largely due to the interference of Quiet.
Bloody Mary[]
Mary was John's ex-girlfriend. After an incident involving some Burnouts setting her old pit stop on fire, John assumed she was dead and never saw her again, until years later when he stopped at the Nut House. She harbored some hatred towards him for essentially abandoning her, which resulted in them fighting over the package that would give the holder a better life if delivered.
Calypso[]
Some time in the past during his milkman days, John had a random chance encounter with Calypso as he attempted to light a campfire. Calypso revealed that he was the one responsible for vandalizing roadsigns with his own personal graffiti and lit John's fire through apparent supernatural means. Calypso also offered his friendship and a small pack of flavored alcoholic drinks to John before supernaturally vanishing back into the night.
History[]
Background[]
Not much is known about John's life before the apocalypse, other than him leading a comfortable life with a mother, father, and sister in a middle-class home in San Francisco. The apocalypse of 2002 happened when he was twelve-years old, while his father was teaching him how to drive. Some time after the apocalypse that separated him from his family, John would wake up in a daze in the front seat of his family's station wagon, not remembering his name or his family. He would lose his vehicle to a marauder not long afterward, but always held tight to a burnt family photo reminding him of the life he used to have.
His fortunes would quickly take a turn for the better as he managed to find an abandoned four-door sedan in a leafy grove with its former occupant long deceased. The young John would take refuge in it until one day when a group of Butchers followed him back with the intent of eating him. John managed to escape with his life and would camp out at a nearby junkyard, collecting license plates and sorting through them until he found one he would affix to the car and re-christening it Evelyn.
Season 1[]
In his adult life, John Doe would take up the hazardous occupation as a Milkman, tasked with making deliveries across post-apocalyptic America in a set timeframe against the elements and roving gangs of highwaymen set to steal his objective, his life, or possibly both. On one such day, John was attacked by a small gang of Vultures through an abandoned mall on his way to New San Francisco. John evaded these rogues and made his delivery on time, only to be invited into the city by the COO, Raven. Raven presented to him the offer of a lifetime: permanent residence in New San Francisco free from the milkman lifestyle if he could make one last delivery from New Chicago. John graciously accepted the job and was back out on the road again.
After acquiring a map from a local mapmaker, John hit the road from New San Francisco making an impromptu stop outside the outskirts of Las Vegas where he was first ambushed by Quiet who attempted to steal his car. Their standoff is interrupted by the notorious killer Sweet Tooth, who invites them to his one-man show. Attempting to refuse his offer, Sweet Tooth gives chase and corners them in an abandoned casino and forces both of them to attend. After the show, John and Quiet offer praise and criticism which is enough for Sweet Tooth to finally let them go. As they leave, both of them encourage Sweet Tooth to go out into the world to improve his craft.
At the next stop, a checkpoint outside Hoover Dam, John and Quiet are stopped by the Lawmen and Agent Stone who demand they both apply for an authorized road travel license. Despite filling out the necessary forms and enduring various tortures, Agent Stone demands their execution by the rookie Lawman Stu. They would be interrupted by a marauding Sweet Tooth who kills most of the Lawmen stationed there. John and Quiet attempt to flee the scene with Stu, but accidentally leave him behind during the ensuing melee.
Season 2[]
