Severed Sam is a contestant made for the bonus mode from the Extra Twisted Edition of Twisted Metal: Head-On, named Twisted Metal: Lost.
Bio[]
Sam Boomer was a rising star on the racing circuit until a spectacular crash took his life. His car was totaled, his body decapitated. Now he searches Midtown for the crazed fan who leapt from the stands on that tragic day and stole his severed head.
Trivia[]
- It is unknown how Severed Sam is still able to see, as he is headless. This is a curious "problem" that is also shared with No-Face.
- His whole story, character and car name were made in the development of Lost by David Jaffe, and have nothing to do with the cancelled title Twisted Metal: Harbor City (Jaffe did not work on Harbor City, only the stories and retrofitting of levels for the Lost bonus mode in the Extra Twisted Edition of Head-On).[1]
- Severed Sam may be based on the real life story of NASCAR driver Russell Phillips, who while racing, had car flipped and its roof ripped open, mutilating his body, and decapitating his head which rolled down onto the pit lane.
- He was also inspired by the Headless Horseman from the classic gothic tale The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, where a cavalryman in the American Civil War get his head decapitated by a cannonball, and returns as a ghost to find a claim his lost head, killing anyone who gets in his way, this was confirmed by David Jaffe.
- According to David Jaffe, Severed Sam's original name was Headless Hal.
