Trapper is a new vehicle made for Twisted Metal: Small Brawl. It is the boss of the Minigolf Mayhem level in Tournament Mode.

Design[]

It is a safari truck based on the 6x6 WW2 Troop Transport.

Special Weapon[]

  • Monkey: Fires a red monkey out the vehicle. Upon colliding with an enemy vehicle or solid surface, it will multiply and inflict massive damage.

How to Unlock[]

To unlock Trapper, players must complete Tournament Mode using every other available vehicle in the game, including Mime, Axel, and Darkside.

Behind the Scenes[]

TMSBEarlyTrapper

Early Trapper model.

Early on in development, Trapper was a smaller car, and was planned to be a secret character that was meant to be unlocked by finding the hidden pieces of the vehicle throughout the levels. After this idea was scrapped, a result of Minion being cut and Piecemeal being promoted to final boss, Trapper was promoted to mid-boss, and its design changed to the one from the final version, as Dave Goodrich felt its small stature was not menacing enough to be a boss. This smaller design of Trapper was then reused for Grasshopper's vehicle, which eventually became Warthog.

The idea for the later design came from Padre Destino's Goliath Halftrack from Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense, but as to not copy it, Goodrich looked for inspiration elsewhere, eventually finding a R/C 6x6 WW2 Troop Transport in the back of a Hobby Magazine.

TMSBTrapperSpecialConcept

Concept of Trapper's special.

Its special weapon was originally supposed to be a boomerang that split off into multiple ones, with all of them exploding after reaching a limit of 8. Its projectiles were also able to steal pickups that they collided with. As Goodrich felt the boomerang didn't fit a big-game hunter, it was changed into monkeys similar to the ones from the Barrel of Monkeys toy instead, and the stealing mechanic was scrapped. Trapper originally had a tinted cap, but was removed to show some barrels sitting in the back. However, the barrels were removed as well because of potential trademark issues.[1]

Trivia[]

  • Trapper's Special Weapon is the first one in the Twisted Metal series that splits itself upon collision with anything. This would be replicated with Road Boat's primary Special Weapon.
  • The monkeys' design from Trapper's special is similar to the design of a "Barrel of Monkeys" game piece.
  • Trapper has the highest armor rating in Twisted Metal: Small Brawl, beating the boss version of Piecemeal by a mile.
