Early prototype of PlayStation 3's Twisted Metal, also simply known as Twisted Metal.

Description[]

This scrapped version was shown in Comic Con 2010 by Eat Sleep Play together with Twisted Metal: Apocalypse. The main idea behind this version was to bring the series to a more mainstream audience. It utilized street culture and hip-hop influence, and would focus more on various different factions instead of singular characters, with different gang members in the same car - an idea that would be later used in the 2012 incarnation. The gangs included yakuza, FBI agents, police, and terrorists.

The only apparent character was Sweet Tooth, which had a complete redesign to fit the realistic direction of the game, looking more like a smooth criminal rather than a psychopathic clown. This depiction received a mixed reaction from the standing room only crowd in the Comic Con presentation.[1]

David Jaffe compared the game to Rockstar's Midnight Club series when describing the look and feel of the it. In addition, Jaffe said that it was extremely difficult to portray the environments that they had created in their concept art within the game as it resulted in an extremely bland environment,[2], and that the team in Utah wasn't fit for this particular type of game.[3]
