Yellow Jacket is an unlockable vehicle from Twisted Metal: Black. It returns after being absent since the first Twisted Metal game. While still a well-rounded vehicle, its special has been completely changed.
Design[]
The car is an armored taxi cab, based on a Checker Marathon. It has two bumpers chained to its front, a supercharger, and its taxi sign on top was replaced with machine guns.
Description (Manual)[]
Yellow Jacket is the taxi cab that Charlie drove almost every day. It is also the same taxi cab that he was murdered in.
Special Weapon[]
Eight explosive-tipped spikes protrude from all sides of Yellow Jacket. Either press the Fire Weapon button to launch the sharp spikes or ram an opponent to drive them deep into the metal, causing even more damage. To experience the Special Attack's true power, try "Turbo" ramming your opponents with the spikes exposed.
How to Unlock[]
In order to unlock Yellow Jacket, the player has to find it on the Junkyard in Story Mode. Look outside the boundaries of the battleground until you see a plane flying in the sky. Launch some missiles at it until it starts burning. It will then crash underneath the building around the backside where the scrapyard is, leading a path down to the sewers (if you're playing the European version, the plane will already be crashed from the start). Follow the path until you come across a big round room with a broken pipe in the center showing a turntable. The control panel is sitting in front of it, so destroy it to unlock Yellow Jacket.
Trivia[]
- Yellow Jacket is the only unlockable vehicle from Twisted Metal: Black who has a prologue.
- Yellow Jacket's model has both headlights working in an official render and in some small cutscenes, while one of them is broken in-game and in the character select screen.
- In the files from the European (PAL) release of the game, there exist unused FMVs of Yellow Jacket. The first one has it leaving Blackfield Asylum (intro), the second is after the battle with Minion (middle), and the third has it driving away in Midtown (ending). The PAL version of the game doesn't include any of the characters' intro, middle, and ending FMVs, with their files (including the unlockable vehicles) being replaced with shots of the cars driving instead.
- During Yellow Jacket's ending cutscene when WarHawk explodes, one can see that the vehicle on the building below is Axel, not Yellow Jacket. This also applies to WartHog and ManSlaughter.
